Book Launch - A Drawing a Year Join local artist, Genie and Art Historian, Andrew, discussing Genie's drawing a day project and the launch of the book of 365 drawings.

On June 11th, 2022, Genie Poretzky-Lee began a drawing challenge: a drawing a

day for a year to gift to whoever requested it.

The 365 drawings are now available in a book: Drawing a Year, Day by Day.

To hear how the project unfolded please join us on the 18/09/2024 @ 6.30pm. You

will also have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Genie’s book.

Genie Poretzky-Lee was classically trained in drawing and sculpture at the

Academie Julian in Paris. She continued training in textiles when she moved to

London and co-founded ‘Fibre Art’ in the UK, alongside Professor Janis Jeffries.

Her inspiration was abstraction and alchemy, and developed into painting in the

early and mid 90’s. Her work started to include organic materials like sand, crystals,

and paper creating a textured surface. Pastels were a more fragile medium,

inspired by geometry, the relationship to the square, the movement of line, and

lines in space. Her 3D work and installations included sound and light, all of which

deepened the idea of exhibition as being simultaneously experiential as well as a

space for communal sharing.

Vet at the End of the Earth: Adventures with Animals in the South Atlantic

The role of resident vet in the British Overseas Territories of the Falklands, St Helena, Tristan da Cunha and Ascension encompasses the complexities of caring for the world’s oldest land animal – a 200-year-old giant tortoise – and MoD mascots at the Falklands airbase; pursuing mystery creatures and invasive microorganisms; and rescuing animals in extraordinarily rugged landscapes.

Hugely entertaining and affectionate, Jonathan Hollins’s tales of island vetting are not only full of ingenuity and astounding fauna – they are also steeped in the unique local cultures, history and peoples of the islands, far removed from the hustle of continental life.

Included in the ticket price is a complimentary glass of natural wine, craft beer or in house made soft drink. Doors open at 6.30pm with the talk at 7 and time for questions and book signing afterwards, wrapping up at 8.30pm. The bar will be open from 6.30 to 7 and 8 to 8.30. There will also be an opportunity to buy Jonathan's book and browse and purchase from our permanent book, arts and antiques collection.
